GRE HOME EDITION

Hello, buddies welcome to my new blog called CAPERSWAY.

This blog is mainly about my GRE home edition experience. Go through it and share your doubts and thoughts on it. Hope you will like it.

My exam was scheduled for 2:30 pm. And I had just a small amount of lunch because the afternoon exam always makes me lazy to solve problems but that was only free time available for me. There will be many slots you can select whichever you prefer because it is a home edition.

1) The software which you will be using is called Proctor U. So, before booking a slot just verify whether the software is working and satisfying all the needs on your PC.
So, on the day of the exam, the proctor will ask you to show your passport through a webcam, but as you all know webcams are not that good quality so I clicked the passport picture with my smartphone and then showed the picture through webcam. He will ask you to switch off your smartphone and place it in such a way that it should be visible to him but far away from you.

2) He will ask you to show all the 4 walls of the room and open also the table which you are using. So showing the table and contents near your laptop or PC you should turn on your smartphone's front camera and place it in front of the webcam so that he can see everything beside and behind the PC and desk.

3) You cannot use pen and paper so you should have a whiteboard and a marker or you can use a transparent file holder with white paper in it as a temporary whiteboard.

4) There will be 10 min break after 2 sections so if you want you can use this break and follow the same procedure after entering showing the 4 walls and everything. I did not use that break so it was just 4 to 4 and half hours of the long continuous test without a break.

5) Proctor may send you a message in the chat section or he may also call you directly, just to check your exam environment and the surroundings if he is suspicious or else there won't be any process like that. It totally depends on the proctor and how strict he is. In a maximum number of cases, they will be very supportive and always try to help you during internet connectivity issues. So that is the least problem to bother about. After completing the exam you have to erase everything on the whiteboard and then show it to the proctor. Finally, after the exam, your scores will be visible but only quants and verbal. Your scorecard will be sent to you via mail and also will be updated in your ETS account around 1-2 weeks.

So that's it this was my experience of the home edition and I scored 317. I faced some issues like the proctor was very disturbing. He asked me almost 2-3 times to show the exam environment, so that was a bit irritating.

To sum up, it was a very good experience. And I will also write a blog about the difference between writing GRE at home and center.
So stay updated for my next blog, like this blog. Thank you take care.
